Remote Overnight Crew

Walnut Mountain - Appalachian Trail

This is an exciting overnight trail crew event. These weekends are designed for individuals who may be new to trail work and/or work or go to school during the week. You will learn alongside experienced maintainers. All are welcome and no experience is necessary. You do not need to be a CMC member to join us on work days. Families and youth are welcome. All youth under the age of 18 must be accomplished by parent, guardian, or youth organization.

You will be spending the night camping so bring what you need to do that.  We will not be sleeping in a shelter.  Bring food for 2 lunches, dinner, and snacks.  You will want to bring some water but there will be a water source to filter to get more.  Wear sturdy closed toed shoes and long pants.  Bring gloves and safety glasses if you have them.  We can supply more as needed, and we will provide hard hats unless you bring your own.

Meet at Home Depot, 127 Acton Circle, Asheville at 8:00 am or Lemon Gap at 9:30 am Saturday. We will return by 2:00 pm Sunday.

CMC 2024 Quarterly Crew (Q2) - National Trails Day

Join us for a day of trail work on the Appalachian Trail near Hot Springs. This event is designed for individuals who may be new to trail work, including those who work or go to school during the week. You will learn from experienced trail maintainers. All are welcome; no experience is necessary, and you do not need to be a member of the Carolina Mountain Club (CMC) to participate. Families and youth are welcome, though all youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or youth organization.

All necessary tools will be provided. Please wear long pants and a long-sleeve shirt. Remember to bring lunch, snacks, and water.

After the workday, join us for an Afterparty at Big Pillow Brewing!

We will have two meeting locations:

  • 8:00 AM: US Forest Service parking lot, 160 Zillcoa St., Asheville, NC 28801. Volunteers meeting here will sign in and carpool to Hot Springs.

  • 9:00 AM: Public Parking lot behind Big Pillow Brewing in Hot Springs. Volunteers will gather here to divide into work teams and carpool to the work sites.

Max Patch Annual Workday - National Public Lands Day

National Public Lands Day is the largest single-day volunteer event in the country. Volunteers, along with Carolina Mountain Club, Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and US Forest Service, will continue restoration efforts on Max Patch, endearingly referred to as the Jewel of the Southern Appalachian Trail.
